β2-microglobulin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001062
A small protein that forms the light chain of major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC class I) molecules. It is found on the surface of most nucleated cells and is shed into the blood, where its concentration can be measured. Elevated levels in serum or urine can indicate kidney dysfunction or certain inflammatory conditions.
