Glomerular filtration

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004915

The initial step in urine formation, involving the passive movement of water and small solutes from the blood into the Bowman's capsule of the kidney. This process occurs across the glomerular capillary walls, which act as a selective barrier. The filtrate formed is essentially protein-free plasma.
