Phagosome
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008713
A membrane-bound vesicle formed inside a phagocytic cell during the process of phagocytosis, containing the engulfed particle. After formation, the phagosome matures by fusing with endosomes and then lysosomes, forming a phagolysosome where the ingested material is degraded. This organelle is a key component of the cellular defense mechanism against pathogens.
