Phagolysosome
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008712
An intracellular organelle formed by the fusion of a phagosome, which contains ingested material, with a lysosome, an organelle rich in hydrolytic enzymes. This acidic compartment is where engulfed pathogens and cellular debris are broken down and digested. Its formation is a key step in the immune response and cellular waste management.
