Natural resistance-associated macrophage protein
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007791
A transmembrane protein found in the phagolysosomal membrane of macrophages and other phagocytic cells, involved in host defense against intracellular pathogens. This protein, also known as NRAMP1 or SLC11A1, transports divalent metal ions, particularly iron, out of the phagolysosome, thereby limiting the availability of these essential nutrients for microbial growth. Genetic variations in NRAMP1 are associated with susceptibility or resistance to certain infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis.
