Xenophagy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012740

A selective form of autophagy where cellular machinery targets and degrades foreign invaders, such as bacteria or viruses, within the cytoplasm. This process involves the engulfment of the pathogen by an autophagosome, which then fuses with a lysosome for degradation. Xenophagy represents a fundamental innate immune defense mechanism against intracellular pathogens.
