Chaperone-mediated autophagy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001876

A highly selective pathway for the degradation of specific cytosolic proteins within lysosomes. In this process, a chaperone protein, such as Hsc70, recognizes a specific pentapeptide motif (KFERQ-like) on a substrate protein and delivers it to the lysosomal membrane. The substrate then unfolds and is translocated into the lysosome for degradation via the lysosome-associated membrane protein 2A (LAMP-2A) receptor.
