Autophagosome
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000997
A double-membraned vesicle that forms within a cell to engulf and transport cytoplasmic components, such as damaged organelles or misfolded proteins, for degradation. This structure then merges with a lysosome, forming an autolysosome, where the enclosed material is broken down. It is a central component of the cellular process of autophagy.
