Dynein
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003515
A family of motor proteins that move along microtubules within cells. Dyneins convert the chemical energy stored in adenosine triphosphate (ATP) into mechanical work for cellular transport and movement. Cytoplasmic dynein transports organelles and vesicles towards the minus end of microtubules in retrograde axonal transport, a process distinct from the anterograde transport mediated by kinesins.
