Microautophagy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007305
A cellular process where small portions of the cytoplasm are directly engulfed by lysosomes through invagination of the lysosomal membrane. This mechanism contributes to the degradation and recycling of cellular components, maintaining cellular homeostasis. It differs from macroautophagy, which involves the formation of a double-membraned autophagosome.
