Receptor-mediated endocytosis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010011

A cellular process where specific molecules, or ligands, bind to receptors on the cell surface, triggering the internalization of both the ligand and the receptor into the cell. This mechanism allows cells to selectively take up specific macromolecules from their extracellular environment. The process often involves the formation of clathrin-coated pits that bud off to form vesicles.
