Xerogel
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012741
A solid network left after all the liquid is removed from a gel by ordinary evaporation, during which the network shrinks as capillary forces draw the pore walls together. The result is an open but compacted porous solid, with less pore volume than an aerogel dried supercritically. Silica gel desiccant is a familiar example.
