Sol-gel silica
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010985
A form of silica prepared through the sol-gel process, involving the hydrolysis and condensation of silicon alkoxide precursors like tetraethyl orthosilicate. The process begins with a colloidal suspension (sol) that evolves into a continuous solid network (gel) containing a liquid phase. After drying and heat treatment, the resulting material is a porous, amorphous silica glass with a high surface area.
