Drying control chemical additive
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003463
A co-solvent added to a sol so that the resulting gel can be dried quickly without cracking. It works by narrowing the pore-size distribution and strengthening the gel network, which lowers the capillary stress during evaporation. Formamide, glycerol and oxalic acid are examples, and formamide in silica sols made from tetraalkoxysilanes is the classic case.
