Aerogel
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000309
A highly porous, lightweight solid material derived from a gel by replacing the liquid component with a gas, while preserving the gel's original structure. This process typically involves supercritical drying to prevent collapse of the delicate network. Aerogels exhibit extremely low density and high surface area, making them effective thermal insulators.
