Phagocytosis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008711
The cellular process by which phagocytes engulf solid particles, such as bacteria, dead cells, or debris, from the extracellular environment. This involves the extension of pseudopods to surround the particle, forming a membrane-bound vesicle called a phagosome. Phagocytosis is a fundamental mechanism of the innate immune system and cellular waste removal.
