Secretion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010642
The process by which cells or glands produce and release substances, such as hormones, enzymes, or mucus, that serve specific physiological functions. This can involve active transport across cell membranes or exocytosis of vesicles containing the secreted material. Secretions can act locally or be transported through the bloodstream to distant target organs.
