Neuroendocrine system
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007870
A network of specialized cells, called neurosecretory cells, that link the nervous system with the endocrine system. These cells receive neuronal input from the nervous system and, in response, release hormones into the bloodstream to regulate physiological processes in distant target organs. The hypothalamus and pituitary gland form a central axis of this system, controlling functions like metabolism, growth, and stress responses.
