Neuron-specific enolase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007885
A glycolytic enzyme, specifically the gamma-gamma (γγ) or alpha-gamma (αγ) dimeric forms of enolase, found predominantly in neurons and neuroendocrine cells. It functions in glycolysis, catalyzing the conversion of 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate. Elevated levels in cerebrospinal fluid or serum can indicate neuronal damage or neuroendocrine tumors.
