Upper motor neuron
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012461
A neuron that originates in the cerebral cortex or brainstem and carries motor information down to the spinal cord or brainstem, where it synapses with lower motor neurons. These neurons are responsible for initiating and regulating voluntary movements. Damage to upper motor neurons can result in spasticity, hyperreflexia, and weakness.
