Spasticity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011079
A motor disorder characterized by a velocity-dependent increase in tonic stretch reflexes, resulting in exaggerated tendon jerks and increased muscle tone. This condition arises from hyperexcitability of the stretch reflex as a component of the upper motor neuron syndrome. Spasticity can lead to muscle stiffness, contractures, and impaired motor function, often measured using scales like the Ashworth Scale.
