Caveola
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001755
A small, flask-shaped invagination of the plasma membrane, rich in cholesterol and sphingolipids, that functions in endocytosis and signal transduction. These structures are stabilized by caveolin proteins and are involved in cellular processes such as transcytosis and lipid regulation. Caveolae are particularly abundant in endothelial cells, adipocytes, and muscle cells.
