Upstream water

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012463

The body of water located at a point in a river or stream that is closer to the source and has not yet been affected by a specific point of interest, such as a pollution discharge site. It serves as a reference or control site for comparison with downstream locations to assess the impact of an activity or substance on water quality. Ecotoxicological studies compare biological and chemical data from upstream and downstream samples to quantify the effects of a potential toxicant.
