Reference site
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010082
A location that represents the natural or undisturbed environmental conditions of an ecosystem, used as a benchmark for assessing the impact of human activities or pollution on other sites. Data from a reference site provide a baseline against which changes in biological, chemical, or physical parameters at potentially impacted sites can be evaluated. Such sites are chosen for their minimal anthropogenic disturbance and ecological similarity to the areas under investigation.
