Originating from or produced by human activities, rather than from natural processes. In ecotoxicology and environmental chemistry, this adjective describes pollutants, emissions, or environmental changes resulting from industrial, agricultural, or domestic actions. For instance, the increased atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels is an anthropogenic effect, distinct from natural volcanic emissions.
