Anti

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000659

A stereochemical descriptor for groups lying on opposite faces of a reference plane, the counterpart of syn, for groups on one face. For two substituents on neighbouring atoms linked through a single bond, anti applies when the torsion angle between them is larger than 90 degrees, and the narrower antiperiplanar case spans 150 to 180 degrees. In butane the antiperiplanar arrangement of the two methyl groups is the lowest-energy conformer.
