Gauche
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004780
A conformational arrangement in a molecule where two substituents on adjacent atoms are separated by a torsion angle of approximately ±60 degrees. This conformation is distinct from anti (180 degrees) and syn-periplanar (0 degrees) arrangements. In butane, the gauche conformation is less stable than the anti conformation due to steric hindrance.
