Bisecting conformation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001348

A conformation of a grouping R3C-C(Y)=X in which the double bond C=X lies in the plane bisecting two of the R groups, placing X anti to the third R group while the C-Y bond eclipses it. The alternative, with X syn to an R group and eclipsing it, is the eclipsing conformation. The description is applied to sp3 carbons bonded to a carbonyl or alkene carbon.
