Envelope conformation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003968
A non-planar conformation adopted by five-membered rings, where four atoms lie in a common plane and the fifth atom is displaced from this plane. This puckering reduces torsional strain and angle strain within the ring. It is commonly observed in cyclopentane and furanose rings of carbohydrates.
