Stereoisomers
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011378
Isomers possessing an identical constitution, meaning the same atoms are connected in the same sequence, but differing in how these atoms are oriented in three-dimensional space. These differences in spatial arrangement can lead to distinct physical, chemical, and biological properties. Stereoisomers are classified into two main types: enantiomers, which are non-superimposable mirror images of each other, and diastereomers, which are all stereoisomers that are not enantiomers.
