Antiaromatic compounds
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000660
Cyclic, planar, fully conjugated molecules that possess 4n pi electrons, where n is an integer. Unlike aromatic compounds, these systems are destabilized by cyclic delocalization of electrons. Cyclobutadiene is a classic example of an antiaromatic compound, exhibiting high reactivity and often existing only at low temperatures.
