Möbius aromaticity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007442
A type of aromaticity found in cyclic systems where there is a single twist in the p-orbital overlap, resulting in an odd number of phase inversions around the ring. Unlike Hückel aromaticity, which follows the 4n+2 rule, Möbius aromatic systems are aromatic if they contain 4n electrons. This concept is often invoked to explain the stability of certain transition states in pericyclic reactions.
