Tropylium ions

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012326

A stable, aromatic carbocation consisting of a seven-membered carbon ring with six pi electrons, satisfying Hückel's rule for aromaticity. It has the chemical formula C7H7+. This cation is often formed by the removal of a hydride ion from cycloheptatriene and is a key intermediate in many organic reactions.
