True coincidence
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012327
The simultaneous detection of two or more radiation events that originate from the same nuclear decay or interaction, within the resolving time of the detection system. This phenomenon is observed in nuclear spectroscopy, particularly with radionuclides that undergo cascade decays, emitting multiple particles or photons. It is a fundamental consideration in gamma-ray spectrometry for accurate activity measurements and spectral analysis.
