Tropyl radicals
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012325
The radical species derived from cycloheptatriene by the formal abstraction of a hydrogen atom from its CH2 group. The resulting cycloheptatrienyl radical (C7H7•) is a seven-membered ring system with a delocalized pi system containing seven electrons. Unlike the related tropylium cation, the tropyl radical does not satisfy Hückel's rule for aromaticity (4n+2 pi electrons).
