Homoaromatic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005352
Describing a cyclic conjugated system that exhibits aromatic character despite having one or more saturated carbon atoms interrupting the cyclic array of p-orbitals. The aromaticity is maintained through orbital overlap across the saturated centers. This concept is often invoked to explain the unusual stability and reactivity of certain carbocations and anions.
