Homo
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005351
A prefix used in organic nomenclature to denote a homologue of a parent compound containing one additional CH₂ group. It is also used as an acronym for the Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital, which is the outermost orbital containing electrons in the ground state of a molecule. In steroid nomenclature, 'homo' indicates the addition of a methylene group to a ring, thus enlarging it.
