Energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003927

The energy level of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) in a molecule, representing the orbital from which an electron is most easily removed. This energy is directly related to the ionization potential of the molecule. A higher HOMO energy indicates a greater tendency for the molecule to donate electrons in chemical reactions.
