Isoconjugate systems
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013218
Molecular entities whose conjugated pi networks have the same topology and the same number of pi electrons but differ in which atoms make up the network, as with benzene and pyridine, or the cyclopentadienide anion and pyrrole. Such pairs have similar orbital patterns, so a result for one often carries over to the other. The relationship is comparable to isoelectronic species, but it concerns pi electrons only.
