Elimination
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003809
A type of organic reaction in which two atoms or groups are removed from adjacent carbon atoms of a molecule, resulting in the formation of a multiple bond (double or triple bond). These reactions are often promoted by bases or heat and can proceed via E1 or E2 mechanisms. A common example is the dehydration of alcohols to form alkenes.
