Α-elimination
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000303
An elimination reaction where two atoms or groups are removed from the same carbon atom, resulting in the formation of a carbene or a related reactive intermediate. This process typically involves the removal of a proton and a leaving group from the same carbon. A classic example is the generation of dichlorocarbene from chloroform under basic conditions.
