Trophic transfer factor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012319
A quantitative measure of the transfer efficiency of a substance, such as a contaminant, between two successive trophic levels in a food chain. It is calculated as the ratio of the concentration of the substance in the consumer to its concentration in the consumed organism. A value greater than one indicates biomagnification.
