Dynamic stability hypothesis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003503

The proposition that longer food chains are less stable than shorter ones. It posits that fluctuations at lower trophic levels are amplified as they move up the chain, making top predator populations more susceptible to extinction. This hypothesis contrasts with the energetic hypothesis, which suggests food chain length is limited primarily by the inefficiency of energy transfer between trophic levels.
