Danger hypothesis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002855
A theory proposing that the immune system responds primarily to signals of cellular damage or 'danger' rather than simply to foreignness. This hypothesis suggests that the immune system is activated by molecules released from stressed or injured cells, regardless of whether the cells are self or non-self. It provides an alternative framework for understanding immune responses, including autoimmunity.
