Liposome

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006670

A spherical vesicle composed of one or more concentric phospholipid bilayers enclosing an aqueous core. This structure allows liposomes to encapsulate and transport both hydrophilic substances within their aqueous interior and lipophilic substances within the lipid membrane itself. Due to this dual-carrier capability and their biocompatibility, they are widely investigated as delivery systems for drugs and other active agents in pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations.
