Amphiphilic

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000518

Describing a molecule or compound that possesses both hydrophilic (water-loving) and lipophilic (fat-loving) properties. This dual nature arises from having distinct polar and nonpolar regions within the same molecule. Surfactants, such as soaps and detergents, are common examples of amphiphilic compounds, forming micelles or bilayers in aqueous solutions.
