Amphiprotic solvent
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000519
A solvent that possesses both acidic and basic properties, allowing it to act as a proton donor (Brønsted acid) and a proton acceptor (Brønsted base). This property allows the solvent to undergo autoionization, or autoprotolysis. Water and liquid ammonia are common examples of amphiprotic solvents.
