Myelin cylinders

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007720

Concentric lamellar structures formed by certain amphiphilic lipids in aqueous solutions, resembling the myelin sheath found in nerve cells. These structures spontaneously form when lipids are hydrated, creating cylindrical arrangements of lipid bilayers. They are often observed in studies of lipid self-assembly and membrane biophysics.
