Lipopolysaccharidomics
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006668
The large-scale, systematic study of the structure, distribution, and function of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) in a biological system. As a sub-field of glycomics, it focuses on characterizing these complex glycolipids, which are major components of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. The analysis employs advanced techniques, primarily mass spectrometry, to elucidate the structural variations in the lipid A and polysaccharide portions of the molecules.
