Core oligosaccharide
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002579
The portion of a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) molecule in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria that covalently links the lipid A moiety to the O-antigen polysaccharide chain. This structural component is composed of a short chain of sugar residues, including characteristic sugars like heptose and 2-keto-3-deoxyoctulosonic acid (Kdo). The structure of the core oligosaccharide is generally conserved within a bacterial genus, unlike the highly variable O-antigen.
